Christmas Office Party Ideas
Without fail, every year I am in charge of planning our office Christmas
party. This is a job that I both love and dread at the same time. I am a
planner and consider myself to be creative, but I have the tendency to go
overboard sometimes, so I have had to learn to combine my creative and time
management skills so that I don’t send myself over the edge. Through the years
I have come up with some great Christmas office party ideas, some of which I
was able to get away with doing a few years in a row because everyone had such
a great time.
My office is fairly laid back, so a formal party is not in the cards, which seems
to work well for all my co-workers. When coming up with Christmas office party
ideas, you must first decide who formal or informal your party is going to be.
We a lot a whole morning to celebrate whereas other offices only have 1 hour
for their Christmas party, so when planning your Christmas party it is
important to keep your time allotment in mind.
We try to take our Christmas party away from the office building so that some
of us don’t end up working rather than enjoying the party. I highly recommend
this if at all possible. This doesn’t mean you have to rent a room for your
party, especially if you have a small office. The last few years we have met
for breakfast and done a gift exchange. We were out of the office, avoided
office talk and just enjoyed being together. One year we did an evening party
at my house that included spouses but was still casual. It was great to be
able to meet other family members.
For the past few years, I have helped a friend with more formal Christmas
office party ideas. This has been a challenge, but we have learned that formal
does not have to mean boring. We have incorporated formal and fun through our
choice of decorations, music and a few games that helped people to feel more
comfortable. Last year we used a Latin theme complete with a Mariachi band.
People got up and danced rather than sit in their seats just listening to a
band. Her co-workers have already requested this for next year. Remember when
thinking about Christmas office party ideas that your party doesn’t always have
to follow a traditional Christmas theme, but that it should be fun and
memorable for all who attend.
Christmas Office Party Game Tip #1
When planning your Christmas Office Party games, make sure to keep in mind the following questions:
* What is your goal in playing games at the party? Icebreaker? Entertainment? Awarding of Prizes?
* What is the personality and age mix of those attending the party?
* What is the 'feel' of the party? Casual? Dressy? The 'atmosphere' desired will dictate the type of games to be played.
* What is the size of the party? Certain games are more successful depending on the number in attendance.
* What is the size and layout of the party location? Some party games work better depending on the venue. |
