Our office loves to celebrate any and every occasion from
Christmas to the 4th of July to Birthdays and Weddings. In fact, we love to
celebrate things so much that we have a Pot Luck for something at least
once/month. Sometimes we decide to have a coffee day where we all bring in
coffee and desserts. Since I am typically the one who organizes these events,
I have also been the one in charge of game planning as well. Over the past 10
years I have discovered and invented some fun office party games.
After going through the typical “how many words can you
make out of this phrase” and “guess how many candies are in the jar” games, I
began to look for more creative games. I started by searching the internet and
found a world of fun office party games right at my finger tips. I also used
my co-workers as a source of inspiration for new party games. Since we all
come from different backgrounds, we have all been able to contribute our own
ideas for the next party.
When planning our games, I have found that there are a
few rules that I need to follow to make sure that the games are fun for
everyone. First of all, the easier to understand and play the better. A game
with 2-3 rules is much better than a game that requires and instruction
manual. Nobody wants to waste time arguing over what you can or can’t do.
Plus, everyone at your office probably has different strengths and weaknesses,
so you want to make sure that it can be played across the board. Second of
all, I always run a game by 2-3 co-workers before the event to get their
opinion. What might seem like fun office party games to me might be either
boring or too hard for others.
It is also a good idea to choose party games that can be
played in a short period of time. They might be fun for 15 minutes, but get
old after 30 minutes or more. When choosing office party games, keep the
various personality types in your office in mind. You don’t want to offend
anybody or leave anybody out. You want to fun office party games to indeed be
fun for all who participate.
Christmas Office Party Game Tip #1
When planning your Christmas Office Party games, make sure to keep in mind the following questions:
* What is your goal in playing games at the party? Icebreaker? Entertainment? Awarding of Prizes?
* What is the personality and age mix of those attending the party?
* What is the 'feel' of the party? Casual? Dressy? The 'atmosphere' desired will dictate the type of games to be played.
* What is the size of the party? Certain games are more successful depending on the number in attendance.
* What is the size and layout of the party location? Some party games work better depending on the venue. |
