Holiday Office Party Games

Chances are, if you are searching for ideas for holiday office party games, you are in charge of this years annual holiday party at your office.  For some of you, this is exciting, and for others, there might be some dread attached to this task.  This does not have to be a dreaded task.  There are a few simple things that you need to keep I mind when choosing holiday office party games that will help make your party a success.

First of all, think about your co-workers.  Whether you have an office with 10 employees or an office with 100, whether your co-workers are male or female or both, and your co-workers physical capabilities should all be taken into account when choosing holiday office party games.  For instance, a smaller office might have more time for certain games, thinking about your co-worker’s demographics would affect a gift giving game, and physical capabilities could limit which games you choose since you wouldn’t want anyone to feel left out.

If you choose a gift giving game such as dirty Santa, make sure that you set a minimum and a maximum for the gift.  One year, I brought a $20 gift and ended up with a $5 gift!  One popular game is secret Santa.  At one local organization, co-workers can pick another co-worker’s name (it isn’t mandatory to participate in this game).  They then do nice things for them throughout the month of December up until the party when they reveal who they are.

If you have a larger group of employees, there is typically not as much time for holiday office party games.  Guessing the number of marshmallows in a jar, playing name that tune with Christmas songs and door prizes are all things that can be done with a larger group.  If you are having a more formal holiday party, but still want to incorporate games, then Doors prizes are a good idea. The internet is a great place to search for unique holiday office party games. Ask your co-workers for ideas as well.  They can give you tips on things that they have enjoyed in the past and games that didn’t go over as well.  Remember to keep your holiday office party games fun and enjoyable for everyone in the office.

Christmas Office Party Game Tip #1

When planning your Christmas Office Party games, make sure to keep in mind the following questions:

* What is your goal in playing games at the party? Icebreaker? Entertainment? Awarding of Prizes?

* What is the personality and age mix of those attending the party?

* What is the 'feel' of the party? Casual? Dressy? The 'atmosphere' desired will dictate the type of games to be played.

* What is the size of the party? Certain games are more successful depending on the number in attendance.

* What is the size and layout of the party location? Some party games work better depending on the venue.
