Christmas Office Party Games

We know it rolls around every 365 days, but it still seems to sneak up on us every year.  From presents to cards to baking cookies, the Christmas preparations never start as early as we want them to.  In addition to all of our personal Christmas traditions, planning the Christmas party and making it exciting can be a challenge.  We are always looking for new ideas for unique Christmas office party games and ways to make the party a success.

The first thing you need to do is to take into account who works at your office before you can come up with Christmas office party games.  Some of you may work with all women or all men whereas others work with a wide variety of people. If you Christmas office party games involve gift giving, you want to make sure that your gift is appropriate for all people involved.  For instance, if you know 3 or 4 co-workers don’t drink, you wouldn’t want to bring wine as a gift. Jewelry might be great for a woman, but is your male co-worker going to be happy if he winds up with a new pair of earrings?

Next you need to decide how much time you will have.  If your party consists of a 30 minute lunch break that includes cookies or cake provided by the company, then you don’t have a lot of time for games.  You might want to consider doing door prizes and drawing names while people eat or the old stand by of “guess how many green and red candies are in the jar.”  If you have 3-4 hours set aside for a party, you can do more unique things like a dirty Christmas gift exchange where people can steal each other’s gifts.  If it is a formal party, then you probably will want to stick with a door prized or two.

It’s also important to note that some people love games and some people don’t. The old saying that you can’t please everyone all the time holds true for office parties and Christmas office party games.  If you have a smaller office, ask your co-workers for opinions and then go with the majority.  Remember, a Christmas party is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, which means you as the planner should be able to have fun too.  Ask for help from co-workers so that you can have some time to enjoy the party as well.
