Office Christmas Party Ideas
It’s that time of year again: time to plan the office Christmas party. Before you
fall into the same old rut let’s take a moment to step outside the box. Don’t
pick up those red and green napkins and plates and don’t call the same caterer
that you have the last 15 years. Why not make this year’s Christmas party
memorable and exciting. There are so many different office Christmas party
ideas out there just waiting to be discovered and explored.
When planning your office Christmas party, one of the best places to start is
by thinking of a theme. Decorations can be simple or elaborate depending on
your time or your budget. For instance, I have helped plan office Christmas
parties on both a very minimal budget to an extensive budget. I have found
that price doesn’t have to make or break the party. When coming up with office
Christmas party ideas for a local non-profit organization, I decided on a
snowflake theme. There was a daycare in the building and the children helped
cut out snowflakes and add glitter to them. We hung the snowflakes all over
the lunchroom and turned it instantly into a winter wonderland. Tables were
covered with blue, plastic table clothes with glitter sprinkled on it to keep
with the theme. Total cost for decorations was less then $75!
Other successful office Christmas party ideas that I have used included a Latin
Christmas theme with a Mariachi band and a Hawaiian Christmas theme with red
and green leis and Hawaiian Christmas music. These were not your traditional
Christmas party themes, but they were fun and colorful and were both requested
the following year. You don’t necessarily have to use traditional decorations
or food in your office Christmas party ideas.
A Christmas pot luck is an excellent way to enjoy new foods and new Christmas
traditions with your co-workers. A local organization employs people that are
different nationalities, ethnicities and from different religious
affiliations. Each year they ask their employees to bring a traditional Holiday food for their family to share at the party and the company provides drinks and
paper products. Talk to co-workers for office Christmas party ideas. They
might have suggestions on ways to change the party and make it exciting and new
each year.
Christmas Office Party Game Tip #1
When planning your Christmas Office Party games, make sure to keep in mind the following questions:
* What is your goal in playing games at the party? Icebreaker? Entertainment? Awarding of Prizes?
* What is the personality and age mix of those attending the party?
* What is the 'feel' of the party? Casual? Dressy? The 'atmosphere' desired will dictate the type of games to be played.
* What is the size of the party? Certain games are more successful depending on the number in attendance.
* What is the size and layout of the party location? Some party games work better depending on the venue. |
