When I was hired at my current job, I didn’t realize that my job description
would include CPP (chief party planner). However, after being at the job for a
few months, my creative, ability to plan and inability to say “no”, earned me a
promotion to the CPP. As the CPP for my office, I became in charge of planning
office parties for everything from Christmas to Easter to baby showers and
wedding showers. Throughout the past 11 years, I have come up with many unique
office party ideas.
There are two things I have learned. First of all, you can’t please everyone
all the time. People will be quick to give you ideas or suggestions for ways
that you can improve things next year, which means they are automatically
assuming that you will be doing this next year since you are, after all, the
CPP. Secondly, don’t ask for help or suggestions unless you really want it.
If you do, be prepared to refer back to the first thing I learned.
When thinking of office party ideas, it is important to think outside the box.
Admittedly, this may shake some of your co-workers up a bit. What were you
thinking using purple and white for the Christmas party? Whey did you use
cookies instead of cake for the Birthday party? Because it is new and
exciting! You don’t have to follow any rules as CPP because you make them.
Have fun when planning the party and have fun at the party, after all, parties
are supposed to be fun for all involved.
At your next Christmas party, use a Hawaiian theme with green and red leis and
Holiday Hawaiian music. At your next Baby Shower at work, consider using
cupcakes shaped like baby booties instead of a cake. Invent a reason to have a
holiday party such as the first day of spring or summer. Make everyday a
reason to celebrate. If the winter months have everyone down, consider having
a buffet luau in January. As CPP, your duty is to make sure that your
co-workers are happy and healthy. When thinking of office party ideas, keep in
mind that you don’t have to always play by the rules, you just want to make the
celebration memorable and fun.
Christmas Office Party Game Tip #1
When planning your Christmas Office Party games, make sure to keep in mind the following questions:
* What is your goal in playing games at the party? Icebreaker? Entertainment? Awarding of Prizes?
* What is the personality and age mix of those attending the party?
* What is the 'feel' of the party? Casual? Dressy? The 'atmosphere' desired will dictate the type of games to be played.
* What is the size of the party? Certain games are more successful depending on the number in attendance.
* What is the size and layout of the party location? Some party games work better depending on the venue. |
Christmas Office Party Game Tip #2
Remember to make sure everyone is included in the games and see how the party livens up. |
Christmas Office Party Game Tip #3
Christmas Office Party Games don't have to be complex to be fun, in fact, the simpler the game, the better most guests seem to like them, and the less work they are for you! |
